AL-ANSAR UNIVERSITY, MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Following the approval for the establishment of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri

by the Federal Executive Council on the 6th of April, 2022, the Founder of Al- Ansar University, Dr M.K Dikwa, mni has directed for the immediate commencement of the process of appointment of principal officers of the University.

Members of the Planning and Implementation Committee (PIC), the Al-Ansar Family and other stakeholders are hereby informed that the positions to be filled are University Vice-Chancellor, Bursar and University Librarian. The position of the Registrar has already been filled with the appointment of Malam Bukar Usman, the immediate past Registrar of Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State.

In view of this, interested members of the PIC, the Al-Ansar Family and other stakeholders that have interest to apply or have other qualified candidates in mind be encouraged to apply for the positions indicated as per the specifications and requirements outlined below.

RECRUITMENT OF PRINCIPAL OFFICERS

PREAMBLE

Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, (AU) is pleased to announce vacancies for suitably qualified candidates into principal officers’ positions.

Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri is one of the 12 recently approved Private Universities in Nigeria. It was established to bridge the higher education gaps, especially to those in the North-East region with the opportunity to further their education. The University aspires to be a world-class institution of learning and research that will produce well-rounded entrepreneurial graduates.

VISION

The Vision of Al-Ansar University is to be a world-class academic institution where faith, innovation and service are nurtured for the advancement of human development.

The Mission of Al-Ansar University is to be a beacon of knowledge and transformative learning, seeking to advance professionalism, building a diverse and socially inclusive societies and be a powerhouse for human capital development.

POSITION OF VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University and ex-officio member of the Governing Council. The Vice- Chancellor, in addition to his/her functions is specifically charged with the smooth running of the University and shall exercise such functions as may be conferred on him/her by the University Law. The Vice-Chancellor shall exercise general supervision over disciplines, monitoring the efficiency and good order of the University.

QUALIFICATIONS

An applicant for the post of the Vice-Chancellor of AU must possess the following qualities and qualifications:

  1. The Vice-Chancellor of AU must be a professor of not less than (10) ten years standing.
  2. He/she shall not be more than (65) sixty-five years of age at the time of assumption of duty.
  3. He/she must be a lecturer in the university system for at least (15) fifteen years of unbroken service.
  4. He/she must have demonstrated capability for mobilization of financial resources/grants from national and international bodies.
  5. He/she must have demonstrated/documented experience of establishing new or restructuring existing tertiary institution.
  6. He/she must be ICT compliant and open towards technology and have deep conviction regarding its potential applications.
  7. He/she must be physically fit, morally sound and of impeccable character.

TENURE OF OFFICE/TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

In accordance with the enabling Law, the Vice-Chancellor of AU shall be appointed by the Board of Trustees on the recommendation of the Governing Council.

The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a term of (5) five years in the first instance and may be eligible for re-appointment for a second term. The terms and conditions of service for the Vice-Chancellor shall be embodied in a contract under the seal of the University on such terms as to the condition of the office specified in the instrument of appointment.

REMUNERATION

The remuneration and other conditions of service shall be as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined by the Governing Council of Al-Ansar University from time to time.

POSITION OF UNIVERSITY BURSAR

The Bursar is a principal officer and Chief Financial Officer of the University responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the University. He/she should provide the University Management with appropriate advice and support for all the institution’s financial transactions including investments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. The candidate must possess a good honours Degree in Accounting or allied disciplines from a recognized University. Possession of a Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
  2. The candidate must currently not be lower than the rank of Deputy Bursar and must have a minimum of (10) ten years relevant experience, (5) five of which must have been spent in a university.
  3. He/she must be a registered member of a professional body, such as the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and related bodies.
  4. The candidate must show evidence of knowledge of ICT and understanding of accounting software and their applications in financial administration and management.
  5. The candidate must not be more than (60) sixty years of age at the time of assumption of duty.
  6. The candidate must have in the past exhibited a considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, integrity and transparency on matters of financial administration and management.

TENURE OF OFFICE/TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

In accordance with the enabling Law, the Bursar of AU shall be appointed by the Governing Council.

The Bursar shall hold office for a term of (5) five years in the first instance and may be eligible for re-appointment for a second term. The terms and conditions of service for the Bursar shall be embodied in a contract under the seal of the University on such terms as to the condition of the office specified in the instrument of appointment.

REMUNERATION

The remuneration and other conditions of service shall be as applicable to the post of Bursar in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined by the Governing Council of Al-Ansar University from time to time.

POSITION OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

The University Librarian is a principal officer responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and the coordination of library services in faculties, colleges, schools, institutions and other research units. The University Librarian is expected to provide both administrative and academic leadership in the University Library.

QUALIFICATIONS

An applicant for the post of University Librarian must possess the following qualities and qualifications:

  1. The candidate must possess a good honours Degree, Masters and Ph.D. in Library/Information Science from a recognized University.
  2. He/she must be Deputy University Librarian or Professor by rank.
  3. He/she must have at least (10) ten years relevant experience.
  4. The candidate must show evidence of contribution to knowledge through research and scholarly publications in reputable journals.
  5. The candidate should be able to show a clear understanding of 21st Century University Library, demonstrate considerable experience in its management and administration.
  6. The candidate must be knowledgeable in the application of relevant computer software and library operations/services, especially the e- library.
  7. The candidate must be a registered member of the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), and must not be more than (60) sixty years of age at the time of assumption of duty.
